[ about Aquarius Records ]

Welcome! Founded in 1970, Aquarius is the oldest independent record store in San Francisco. We try to only carry music we love, and we're always searching for more new, cool, weird and wonderful music. All of which we then share with you, our loyal customers! Here you can read a little bit about our history, peruse catalogs of records we carry, see photos of customers, and look at the latest New Arrivals list. The latter being the first thing we'd suggest you do! If you'd like us to email this list to you every two weeks, by all means subscribe on our front page. And if you don't see what you want in our catalogs, please email the mailorder department because there's a good chance we may already have it or can order it for you.

Aquarius Records specializes in many genres... indierock, punk, metal (black, doom, sludge and all things in between), reggae, sixties psych, seventies proto-metal, international music, experimental electronic music, hip hop, field recordings, found sounds, country and bluegrass and avant garde music of all types. Don't forget to read about our unanimous hands-down favorite records from the past 10 years or so, and here's a handy link to the biweekly column we used to write for the San Francisco Bay Guardian. More pictures of the staff can be found on the staff page.

And, you can still have a peek at the Aquarius Records film series made a few years back by AQ pal Daniel Robin. A good chance for all you folks who don't get to visit in person to see all your (old) favorite AQ staffers in action!. Now you can feel like you're here. The films are meant to be a slice of life at our store and our rapidly changing neighborhood, capturing the mood and daily rhythms of the Mission. Check it out and please let us know what you think!
