New Arrivals #188
21 May 2004

Beloved Customers and Friends:

First off, an important message specifically for our mailorder customers:

If you placed an order via our website between the 12th and the 19th of this month (Thursday of last week through this past Tuesday), and you *have not yet* recieved either an automated confirmation email or an email response from Andee in the mailorder dep't., please contact us!

We suffered a mysterious website problem during that period which means it is possible that we never got your order. It may have looked like you successfully submitted your order using our online order form, but nothing may have actually happened! Argh (to say the least). Our dedicated but low-paid technicians are working on figuring out what went wrong, and things DO appear to be working fine just now. We're super sorry for any inconvenience -- we're slow enough without any extra help from website gremlins!

Better news: this week's list is a big and bountiful one. Record Of The Week honors go to Klimek's Milk & Honey, some gorgeous "pop ambient" electronica...

Amongst the highlights you'll find some great drones: a disc from drone experts William Basinski and Richard Chartier, drones with abstracted vocals by Steve Roden, black metal gone noise-drone from Abruptum, and the proggy drone psych of Masayo Asahara. There's also weirdo electronics (Cavendish Sanguine), kick ass punk rock (Vee Dee), kick ass pop rock (Sloan), vintage No Wave (DNA), and dark country-folk (Hotel Alexis).

Elsewhere on this week's list more goodness abounds. Among other things: The second volume of Toba-Trance from Argentina's Los Natas! Acid Mother Temple out the wazoo! The soundtrack to a Finnish play about a giant wazoo! Two great new punk/pop discs from the Sub Pop label! A new super limited (of course) cd from Sunburned Hand Of The Man! A Dead Raven Choir cd on Jewelled Antler! The return of Mission of Burma!

Also, this week there's a good showing by the black metal contingent. In addition to the Abruptum disc in the highlights, there's two discs from one of the blackest and best, Xasthur (a reissue and a split, both great, holding us over 'til his next full-length). Also, two recent faves are back in stock: recent Record Of The Week Meads of Asphodel and also the damaged 'brown metal' of Lugubrum. And we've got a new disc from another of our faves, Khold! Brrrr!!

Oh, and then there's even a batch of long overdue Camper Van Beethoven reissues!

Ok, enough with the exclamation points, on with the list...
