New Arrivals #191

Beloved Customers and Friends:

Hello everybody...Allan's back from his vacation but still busy slacking off (according to Andee, who is still recovering from his two weeks with no Allan), so this list is a lean mean 50 or so items. Well that's not too shabby actually. While Allan had a great time on his trip (back East, to NYC/Boston/Maine/Cape Cod/Toronto!) he's real happy he made it back to SF in time to catch Trad Gras Och Stenar playing the Hotel Utah last Saturday. As with their previous appearance in town, the Swedish psych veterans were absolutely wonderful! Hopefully a few of you out there saw 'em too, somewhere on their US tour, which ends tomorrow, Saturday, in Boston at TT The Bears, with Sunburned Hand of the Man and Major Stars opening up (our Boston customers, don't miss it!). He also was glad to be a back so as to not miss another week of NOMIAC...that's the very exclusive (ok, not really that exclusive) Number One Movie In America Club to which he and Andee, the rest of the AQ staff and a handful of AQ regulars belong. You can too if you live in SF: just check out NOMIAC for each week's details (or start your own wherever you are, sort of like Fight Club, except without all the fighting). This week's movie was in fact for once a FILM (not a movie), and a documentary at that: Fahrenheit 9/11. Scariest NOMIAC ever, which is saying something since one of the first NOMIACs was Anaconda! ; ) Next week, it looks like it's gonna be Spiderman 2. Can't wait!

Allrighty...this list's got a goodly share of (un)godly black metal (Xasthur, Leviathan, Negura Bunget), the new Wilco, the new Beasties, the new Kid 606, the new Biosphere, a new Court & Spark ep, a couple of Vic Chesnutt reissues, a limited M83 10" ep and a couple more Gooom titles for those who've worn out their M83 records. There's a new musical monolith from SUNNO))), and an equally heavy one sided vinyl ep from Buried At Sea (with art on the flip by SUNNO)))'s Stephen O'Malley). From Japan, some psych (LSD-march, Niwa) and some prog (Ruins side project Korekyojinn). From Finland, the always stellar freak-folk outfit Kemialliset Ystavat brings us a new one. And don't miss the batch of great funk/soul/dance comps found at the end of the list. We'll stop there lest we cite *everything* on this list...oh yeah though, we've gotta mention that there's a wonderful new album of minimal pop ambient post rock from Aussie guitar experimentalist Oren Ambarchi, which is our Record Of The Week this time around!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Be sure and check the end of the list for Hammers Of Misfortune tour dates! That's right, a full US tour. Don't miss it, you'll be sorry!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Also, Cup's band I AM SPOONBENDER is looking for a web designer. if you're a good one and want to be involved, send an email to forks@iamspoonbender.com

Thanks as always to everyone who takes the time to read our list, buy records from our store and email us with suggestions, recommendations, and all sorts of other good stuff. Feel free to pass our list on to folks you think would dig it. And if you find out about something via the list, please try to buy it from us. We work really hard on this list, and do our best to bring you great music and lots of honest, funny, and hopefully helpful reviews.

So read on and enjoy!
