New Arrivals #199
22 October 2004

Beloved Customers and Friends:

Another big list this time -- Whew! This list business is wearing us out! But fear not, we will not let you down. We will soldier on! Lots of good stuff as always, but first we have a few matters of business to take care of. If you're already chomping at the bit and ready to rock, then by all means skip on ahead and get rocking. Otherwise, here's a few items of interest:

---------------------------------------------------------------

New mail order procedure! As you know, we have two 'tiers' of domestic mailorder postage pricing. 1-2 items is $4.50, 3+ is $6.50. That's staying the same, but from now on, unless you request otherwise (and pay what will be a different, greater amount), the 1-2 item packages will be shipped USPS Priority Mail, instead of UPS. The 3+ item packages will still be sent out in the big brown trucks (UPS), again unless otherwise requested. So, not much of a change, but since USPS Priority mail isn't tracked and automatically insured like UPS shipments are, if you'd like your 1-2 item package insured and tracked, we will send it via UPS at the $6.50 rate. Just request the alternate shipping in the comments section.

On a related note: box sets DON'T (usually) count as one item. Sorry. A box set will generally bump you up into the "three or more items" category. Y'know, they're big. Boxes.

---------------------------------------------------------------

We shouldn't have to tell you to vote (or who to vote for...haha) since this election is quite possibly one of the most important you'll see in your lifetime and you have the chance to make a difference. But in case you need even more impetus to get out there and vote, check this out:

(Andee is a Votergasm registered American Hero, which will you be?)

---------------------------------------------------------------

Also Byram's extensive Java tour diary is finally ready for all to see. If you want to read all about his various adventures you now can, right here:

Sometimes doing this list every two weeks is a lot like being a pornstar. No not like that, Mr. and Mrs. Mind-in-the-gutter. But it's easy to forget, when we're freaking out and trying to make it through hundreds of records and get all of our reviews done, that we actually get to listen to, and write about, music for a living, and share it with all of you, our loyal AQ friends. And that's pretty darn amazing. Figure that pornstars must go through the same thing. You know, forgetting to smell the roses, as they say ; )
Anyway, we've been trying really hard to not get overwhelmed so we can listen to all this amazing music and spread the word. So sometimes if we haven't gotten to a new release you're curious about, don't fret, it's most likely because we're trying just enjoy it first, before formulating an opinion 'bout it...

Ok, so here's who we've had sex with this week, er... I mean, here's what's on the list this time around! There's two Records Of The Week, one by consistent AQ fave Philip Jeck (teamed up this time with Janek Schaeffer), and the other being the latest from the unfortunately named but really sublime Japancakes. Highlights include the doomadelic overload of the Blood Farmers, Pinback's latest indie rock masterpiece, the 'Lab meets 'Floyd wonders of the new Cyann and Ben, a fab Calexico DVD, grind-metal-record-of-the-year-contender Pig Destroyer, the long awaited last album from the late Elliott Smith, the sludge mastery of the new Yob, and new ones from both longtime AQ-faves Stinking Lizaveta and Circle!

Beyond those, you'll also find much else to get excited about, we think. There's the latest from Jewelled Antler's Child Readers, another installment of evil from Norway's Darkthrone, a TV On The Radio ep, a new DJ /Rupture that's *not* a mix record, a box of drones from Coil, Vashti Bunyan's folk-psych gem reissued domestically at last, and lots more -- new Akimbo, Gold Chains, Hidden Hand, Jello Biafra with the Melvins, and the big ol' Albert Ayler box! And more more more.

---------------------------------------------------------------

And if you're local or plan on visiting the Bay Area soon, make sure and check the end of this weeks list for loads of cool shows and exciting events!!

---------------------------------------------------------------

And as always, thanks for reading the list, passing it on to all your friends who love weird music, shopping at our store, turning -us- on to all sort of great stuff, and helping us spread the word and get all this great music to the people who love it. YOU!! And as always, please realise that we work really hard on the list, so if you find out about stuff through us, please try to buy your records from us. That way we can keep on doing what we do, and we'll always be here with our ears to the ground, and with cds full of heavy metal parrots, secret shortwave spy broadcasts, pitbull fronted death metal (coming soon!), self flagellating Norwegian dwarves, moaning telephone wires, recorded exorcisms, acapella straight edge metalcore, high school battles of the bands, movie theater organ music, Christian psychedelic folk, Bhangra Black Sabbath as well as all the metal, indie rock, electronica, punk rock, reggae, dub, sixties psych, krautrock, classic rock, country
and anything else your heart may desire. So thanks. A bunch!
